Guns for Sale - Pistols For Sale - Item# 13922974

The M1935A was established to the French military in 1935. Up to the occupation via Germany 1940, 9,500 pieces were produced. The construction drawings were sold after war to the Swiss company SIG and the story of success started. Serial number: 4-digit number with Prefix left on frame. 2-digit number inside slide. Numbers, I have three 1935 small sized silver certificates, how high does the prefix/suffix letter combination have to be to warrant a premium? 1935D serial number G17477168G. 1935F serial number R17165528I. 1935H serial number D90012866J. The 1935H it seems the serial number is quite high for a regular note for that series.

  • Since he clearly mentioned Post war mags being stamped “1935_A”. My gun is stamped with the E/WaA251 right between the Mle 1935.A mark and the SACM mark. The serial number is B3859A, which would make it the 3,158th one made under German occupation.
  • I have recently purchased a 1935 a with cursive b 4548 and would like to find all I can about. The only markings on it is a name and serial number inked in to the.
  • B3325A, 8mm, 4 1/4-inch barrel. Black finish.Round hammer spur. Checkered black plastic grips. 200 - 250 from Proxibid, Inc.
  • I got a book called 'The French 1935 Pistol' by Medlin and Doane. The kraut pistols started at B 701, in October 1940. Yours with a 'A' prefix would date to 1939/1940.

Description

Seller's Description:
LSB#: 160404PT02
Make: S.A.C.M. (Société Alsacienne de Constructions Mécaniques de Cholet )
Model: 1935-A
Serial Number: F4186 A
Year of Manufacture: 1945-1950; there is no specific date record, the Germans occupied the SACM factory in the B through D serial block ranges, from 1940 to 1944; the last block of “I” marked pistols ended in 1950.
Caliber: 7.65x20mm Long / Longue
Action Type: Single Action, Semi-Automatic Pistol With Magazine Disconnect Safety and Hammer Disengagement Bar Safety.
Markings: The left side of the frame is marked “Mle 1935_A / F4186 A / S.A.C.M.”, the front of the slide is marked “196”, the underside flat of the slide has a few lightly struck inspection marks and “1 / 2 / 6272 / M”, the left side of the dust cover is marked “S”. The underside flat of the barrel has “F” and a scripted “A” that would be found on early A block 1935_A pistols. The magazine floorplate is marked “35_A”, correct for post-war production.
Barrel Length: 4 3/8”
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a low profile blade that is dovetailed into the slide. The rear sight is a square notch integral to the frame.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are black plastic checkered panels with a cutout for the frame’s left side lanyard loop. The panels have compressed and flattened checkers, but with no cracks or chip losses. The grips rate in about Very Good overall condition.
Type of Finish: The slide and frame are painted black, the barrel has a greenish-phosphate finish.
Finish Originality: All Original
Bore Condition: The bore is light gray and the rifling is sharply defined. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 80% of its metal finish. The balance is shown as scattered handling marks, some of which have gone through the black paint to bare metal. There are blobs of unevenly applied black paint at the butt of the grip frame. The serrations on the slide top and safety are compressed with finish loss. There are some blemishes on the metal visible under the finish on the slide. The screw heads show some finish loss, some of the exposed metal has surface oxidation and the slots are lightly tooled. The markings are illegible in areas on the barrel and underside flat of the slide, the balance are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Very Goood condition as mismatched.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. There is only a small amount of play in the slide-to-frame fit. The recoil spring is strong, the hammer spring has ample tension and the pistol takes down as intended. The magazine is a little difficult to remove but with some general cleaning, it may free up easier. We did not fire this handgun. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is one 8-round parkerized magazine with a black painted floorplate which is marked “35_A”, correct to period. The spring is strong and the feed lips are unmarred. The magazine is in Fine condition with only a small amount of wear.
Our Assessment: From http://candrsenal.com/pistol-french-mle-1935-a/ : “Mle.1935 A pistols were serialized in 10,000 unit blocks, with a letter prefix preceding. This began with the letter A and carried through German occupation and French recapture uninterrupted. It appears that pre-invasion the 1935 A made it to serial number B700. The Germans carried on from B701 until D4550. These will be marked with Waffenamt stamps on the left side of the frame with both code WaA655 and WaA251 having been used. Anything else is likely a fake. Production ended in 1950 in the “I” prefix block. Total production was roughly 85,000 units. Post-war pistols omitted serializing the slide and barrel. Post-war magazines have “1935_A” stamped on the bottom, previously these were blank.” The frame is “F” series marked, the slide is marked “196”, which does not match the serial number and the barrel has a scripted “A” seen on the first block of pistols. All this being said, the slide mates to the frame with only a small amount of play and the action functions correctly. The grip panels have scattered compressed and flattened checkers, the metal surfaces have scattered marks. The bore is light gray and the rifling is sharply pronounced with no erosion. One magazine is included in Fine condition. Please see our pictures and good luck.
